OSHA requires LOTO training initially before a worker is exposed to hazardous energy hazards, when new equipment is introduced, or when a worker is observed to not be following procedures and lock out/tag out guidelines.

While OSHA doesn’t set a fixed expiration or annual requirement, many employers refresh LOTO training every one to three years to maintain OSHA’s requirement for workers to remain competent.
